Teachers from Worcester visited the school in Slovenia

Last week we hosted four teachers from Worcester, England. They presented their school and their town to the younger children. The children also saw british pounds for the first time. The children really enjoyed it! Two of our students gave them some tips on what to see in the vicinity of the school as well as the whole of Slovenia. The teachers from England and English teachers from Slovenia went to see a pottery village and tried the pottery themselves.

Results of the questionnaire

With this questionnaire we wanted to find out how much do children know about the countries
involved in the project »Be Smart – Save Money«, what they know about savings, and what the
role of banks is.

The project

Nine primary schools from Bulgaria, England, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy (Varese), Italy (Sassari), Portugal, Slovenia will work together.

Aim of the project is

to advise (to educate, motivate and empower) the participants to a more responsible use of money,

to clarify financial backgrounds and transactions,

to throw light on consequences of unreflected use of financial and material resources,

to develop simple models of the private use of money (plans for daily expenses and savings),

to initiate an adequate attitude towards financial problems,

to rise awareness against advertisement and consumerism,

to waste less learning to reduce, reuse and recycle, in order to save energy, save scarce resources, reduce litter, save yourself money, conserve landfill void space and prevent valuable materials from being landfilled.

To realise these aims the participating schools will develop teaching units. Each country will develop one unit with a special focus and forward it to a pool from where the other countries will choose one or more in the second half of the project, test them in their own classes and add and/or improve something if necessary. This kind of approach makes it possible, amongst others, to visualise the European importance of the subject, but also to show the national differences, which are caused in different ways of life and different life conditions in each country.
